About the role
About Eleo
Eleo is a Commerce OS for small and growing businesses — one platform that runs inventory, production, sales, payments and accounting in a single place, instead of the five or six disconnected tools most operators juggle today.
We didn't start in a boardroom. Eleo was built out of Foodster, a multi-branch retail food business in Lagos with over 100 employees, because the founder needed the tool and it didn't exist. Five years of live retail and hospitality operations went into the product before we ever sold it to anyone else. Over 132,000 orders and close to ₦800 million in GMV have already run through it.
Alongside the Eleo Suite (the business side), we run the Eleo Marketplace — where merchants sell to customers online, take orders and get discovered.
And "merchant" is broader than it used to be. Yes, it's the supermarket on the corner and the restaurant with three branches. But it's just as much the Instagram vendor running her whole business out of her DMs, the UGC creator who's started selling her own skincare line, the WhatsApp thrift page, the home baker taking orders in the comments. If you sell something, you have stock, orders, customers and money to keep track of — and almost all of these sellers are doing it in a notebook and a chaotic chat inbox.
The role
You are the first person a merchant meets at Eleo. You'll find people who sell things, start the conversation, show them what Eleo does, and walk them through getting set up. That's outreach, demos, onboarding, and the follow-up that turns "sounds interesting" into a merchant who actually uses the product.
This is a volume game and we're honest about that. You'll send a lot of messages, have a lot of conversations, and hear "no" more often than "yes". The people who do well here keep going, get sharper with every conversation, and genuinely enjoy talking to sellers about their business.
There's a second half to the job that we take just as seriously. Eleo is proven in our own operations, but we're only now rolling it out widely — so you'll be among the first people ever to put it in front of strangers. You'll hit bugs. You'll hear "does it do X?" about things it doesn't do yet. Your job is to catch all of it and bring it back: clear bug reports, the merchant's exact words on what's missing, what a deal was actually lost over. That feedback goes straight to the people building the product, and it will change what gets built. This isn't a suggestion box — it's how the roadmap gets set at this stage.
It's remote and it's self-directed. You get a playbook, a curriculum, targets and a weekly rhythm — then you run your own day. If you need someone standing over your shoulder to do good work, this isn't the role. If you've been waiting for someone to hand you the wheel, it is.
What you get
- A fixed stipend, paid on time. Not commission-only.
- A structured curriculum you run at your own pace — a curated set of sales courses covering outreach, discovery, objection handling and closing, picked so you don't have to wade through the internet, plus our own onboarding playbook and product walkthroughs. Certificates are yours to keep.
- A weekly rhythm, not a manager on your back. One group session a week to review numbers, share what's working and unblock each other. Async support in between.
- Remote. Work from wherever you are in Nigeria.
- A genuine shot at being early. Eleo is a small team building something with real scale ahead of it — 40 million SMEs in Nigeria, a product that's already run ₦800m+ in GMV, and almost nobody serving this market properly. The people who join now and perform are the people this company gets built around. Early employee, not intern number 40.
- A clear path. Strong performers move into full-time roles across sales, merchant success, partnerships and operations. We'd much rather promote you than hire above you.
How we hire
Application → a 20-minute video conversation → offer. The application takes about four minutes, needs no CV, and includes a 60-second voice note. We come back to everyone within two weeks.
Eleo hires on ability. We welcome applicants from every background, state, school and story. If you can do the work, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll do
- Build target lists of sellers two ways: physical businesses by area and category, and online sellers by working the vendor pages, creator accounts and thrift stores on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.
- Run daily cold outreach across WhatsApp, DMs, comments, phone, email and in-person visits — writing your own messages, not just sending the templates.
- Qualify sellers quickly: what they sell, how they take orders today, where money is leaking, and whether Eleo is worth their time.
- Deliver short product demos over video or in person, covering both the Suite and the Marketplace.
- Onboard new merchants hands-on — catalogue setup, stores added, first sale processed on Eleo.
- Follow up relentlessly. Most merchants convert on the third to fifth touch, not the first.
- Keep your pipeline accurate and up to date so your numbers can be trusted without being chased.
- Carry merchant feedback back to the product team every week — feature gaps, objections, pricing pushback — in the merchant's own words, with a note on what it is costing us.
- Trial new features and releases with live merchants before wide rollout, and say plainly when something is not ready for merchants to touch yet.
- Act as the field-test channel for a product that is still rolling out: file bugs the moment you hit them, with clear steps to reproduce, screenshots and the merchant's device and setup.
What we’re looking for
- Based in Nigeria and legally able to work here.
- Clear, warm written communication — especially short-form on WhatsApp, DM and email.
- Able to hold a confident conversation with a business owner twice your age.
- Self-directed enough to run your own day without supervision. Remote work only functions if you can.
- A working smartphone or laptop and reliable internet most days.
- Nice to have: any experience selling anything at all — including your own hustle or a page you ran.
- Nice to have: properly plugged into Instagram/TikTok seller and creator culture, or prior exposure to POS, inventory or bookkeeping tools.
